Left 4 Dead 2 Jockey Guide

Overview
The Jockey is weak by nature, but when included in a coordinated attack can have devastating consequences on a team. By himself he is nearly useless when a team is not under the pressure of a full attack. We have compiled some information for you that will hopefully help you not only avoid his wrath more easily as Survivors, but you may also become better at using him in the versus modes.
Hit Points: 325
Main Attack: Lunge/Ride
Secondary Attack: Scratch
What is the Jockey?
The Jockey is a Special Infected that stays low to the ground and moves quickly rendering him difficult to shoot or melee. His primary attack is to lunge at a Survivor to jump on his back and “ride†him into a trap or away from the group.
What are some tell-tale signs of the Jockey?
The first tell-tale sign of the Jockey is his sinister laugh. Perhaps he enjoys what he does, and when he spawns he knows he’s about to unleash havoc. As he is attacking and riding a Survivor he continues his laughter which can queue Survivors which direction he is pulling a team mate.
How to defend against the Jockey
By themselves Jockeys pose little threat to a group, but when they are accompanied by other Infected these enemies can be truly destructive to a group. Jockeys are smaller and have a great amount of health so they take time to kill when riding a team mate. When a team mate is under control of a Jockey quickly place a melee on the Jockey (Left Trigger) to knock him off and momentarily stun him. Continue to melee or shot the Jockey to finish him off. If smacking the Jockey is not an option the best place to shoot him is in the back while riding your team mate. He is smaller so the back gives you the biggest target. You can also dodge Jockeys more easily by side-stepping and using the melee command regularly. This makes you a moving target and more difficult to land on. Be wary of standing near high ledges because you will hang off the edge if he rides you off.
If you find yourself being steered by this Special Infected try to maneuver yourself toward your team or put yourself in a position to be rescued. You will not be able to completely deter the Jockey, but you will ultimately be able to slow him down and make it difficult for him to impose his will.
How to use the Jockey
The Jockey has many uses, but one of the best uses is massive separation. Unless you are at a choke point in which the Survivor team has left one behind it’s often best not to attack alone. The Jockey has been seen doing the most damage when a team is covered in Boomer bile or Spitter goo.
The Jockey is situational. There are times when walking a Survivor off a ledge would be best. There are other times steering the Survivor into a pool of Spitter acid works. Finally the most common use of the Jockey is to steer the Survivor behind walls, down hallways, roads and anywhere else you can to be as far away as possible from the survivors. The Jockey does not do a lot of damage (3 points/1.0 seconds) so the more distance the better. This will give your fallen team mates the chance to mount a second attack.
If you find yourself knocked off but not killed, find a place to hide to recharge your lunge.
