Electronic Arts Mentioned As Left 4 Dead 2 Distributor

To summarize everything below, Electronic Arts is rumored to be a distributor of Left 4 Dead 2. Although it’s not confirmed, there are some reliable sources that state they are.

Despite Valve being conspicuously cagey about its retail distribution plans for its next title, Left 4 Dead 2, multiple online mentions of the game by Electronic Arts this week essentially confirm that the ongoing distribution agreement between the two companies remains intact.

This week, rumors circulated that Left 4 Dead 2 might be heading to PlayStation 3 as well as PC and Xbox 360, its predecessor’s platforms, after a PS3 box shot mockup appeared on EA’s official site.

Valve later confirmed, however, that the game is only in development for PC and Xbox 360, and the EA thumbnail was removed.

Today, a Comic-Con-related press email sent by Electronic Arts to various outlets including Gamasutra included a mention of Left 4 Dead 2, further solidifying the connection.

During E3, Gamasutra asked multiple Valve employees about the game’s publishing situation, but did not get a concrete answer at the time, with indications from the firm that Valve was shopping the game around.

“We don’t have a publisher to name yet,” said marketing VP Doug Lombardi at the time. “We’re talking to folks about it.”

Gamasutra has sought additional confirmation from EA, but has not yet received a response.
