Tip: If you’re not seeing the update, simply close Steam (i.e, the whole program, not just the window) and re-open.

    The Passing, Coming April 22

    April 20th, 2010 2 comments

The article below has been taken from the official Left 4 Dead 2 Blog.

The first game add-on for Left 4 Dead 2 brings the original Left 4 Dead (L4D1) Survivors down south for a meeting with the L4D2 cast, while delivering new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay for the PC and Xbox 360.

The Passing also introduces a series of weekly game mode events dubbed “Mutations.” These week-long runs of new gameplay modes range from “Realism Versus” mode to “Chainsaw Massacre,” which gives all players chainsaws with an unlimited supply of gasoline. There are over 20 Mutations planned, each playable on all L4D2 Campaigns. Mutations are exclusively available to owners of “The Passing” DLC.

In addition, “The Passing” offers a new co-operative challenge mode of play, support for infected bot play in Versus, a new “uncommon common” zombie class (the fallen survivor), melee weapon (golf club), and firearm (M-60).

Available for 560 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360 and free on the PC, “The Passing” takes place just after the Dead Center campaign of L4D2. Set in a small town in rural Georgia, players assume the role of the L4D2 Survivors as they meet with the L4D1 characters.

Exclusively available for Xbox 360 and the PC, L4D2 sets a new benchmark for co-operative action games. The title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaws, frying pans, axes, baseball bats, and more.

With the AI Director 2.0, L4D’s dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players’ performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.

Finally, with new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original, featuring more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, new Survival maps, and the new competitive game mode, Scavenge.

To celebrate the launch of “The Passing” DLC this Thursday Valve employees will be playing on the PC between 11am-5pm PDT and then on the 360 from 7pm-11pm PDT using special accounts. To play with someone from Valve just friend one of the following:

    Meet the Fallen Survivor

    February 13th, 2010 7 comments

News has been announced that the Fallen Survivor will feature in the next DLC, ‘The Passing’, for Left 4 Dead 2.

This particular zombie once believed himself to be immune to the infection, but was quite obviously very wrong as he joins the opposition and goes out on the hunt for some tasty human. Although he may look somewhat similar to a regular Common Infected, there are some factors which distinguish this zombie from all the rest. He will at times drop items such as medikits and ammo when killed, and is somewhat particularly easy to spot and differentiate from the other zombies due to his completely different attire, so in fact is not much like the other infected at all.

It has also been announced that the regular Left 4 Dead 2 characters will be hooking up with the Left 4 Dead 1 guys in the third map of ‘The Passing’ Campaign. It is said that we will also be learning a lot more about the Left 4 Dead 1 characters, and will see their more intimate and personal side of things through their tough journey through the zombie apocalypse.

One thing’s for sure, I certainly can’t wait for this DLC to drop around the rumoured time of March.

    “Don’t worry, we’ll make more”

    February 11th, 2010 1 comment

The Left 4 Dead 2 team over at Valve just posted the following statement on their Steam Community Page:

In the first two months of Left 4 Dead 2′s release, 28,981,249,043 zombies have been shot, bludgeoned, chainsawed and killed — or, for our younger readers, taken to a farm where they can frolic and shuffle around forever.

You read that correctly: 28 BILLION. To put that number in perspective:

    • The entire population of the planet has been zombified and killed 4.26 times.
    • With the average height of a zombie being 6 feet, if you stacked them end to end they would circle the globe 1,322 times.
    • If you placed 28,981,249,043 rulers end to end, they would reach 28,981,249,043 feet in the sky.

In short: That is a bucketload of dead zombies. Nice job, everyone.

Left 4 Dead 2 Ditches Auto-Spawn and Gains Infected Bots

    January 23rd, 2010 8 comments

Valve has announced something for Versus mode that everybody has been wanting to hear for a long time. You will now find that anyone part of an infected team with a few players down will benefit from having a bot take the empty slots until a new player joins and fills it.

Another really great change is the fact that auto-spawns will never occur in finale’s. This comes as fantastic news as auto-spawns were somewhat of a pain in some situations, especially when a zombie re-spawns directly in front of you. Kinda sucks when that happens.

The update will be hitting both PC and Xbox Versions of Left 4 Dead 2 some time in the near future, as no date has been announced thus far.
