Valve has released an update for the Left 4 Dead 2 Demo, now available on Steam for those who have pre-ordered.
The patch brings a few fixes and improvements to the trial version of the upcoming surivival co-op FPS. The download can be accessed by restarting the Steam client.

Left 4 Dead 2 Demo Updates
* Fixed bug that caused dedicated servers to become unjoinable over time without a restart or heartbeat update
* Fixed exploit that allowed players to end a campaign and return to the lobby without a vote
* Public players are no longer matched to lobbies that are idle for a prolonged period of time. These lobbies become “Friends-only” lobbies
* LAN servers list will now show listen server single player games as not joinable and will show game type as “single player” too
When Valve announced a few weeks ago about their $25 million ad campaign to promote the November 17 release of Left 4 Dead 2, I wasn’t sure on how they were planning to market this game besides TV ads. Today, somebody got to see this Miami Public Transportation bus in the city of Miami. Yes, an all Left 4 Dead 2 Bus! Pretty sweet indeed! Perfect timing before Halloween.

G4TV takes a look at Left 4 Dead 2 and the game’s new Realism mode. Abbie Heppe talks to Chet Faliszek from Valve and gets the scoop on the new more realistic mode and its features.
“This, in the wise words of our editor, is “that silly Brit humor only you guys get.” It’s also part of Valve’s massive promotional campaign for Left 4 Dead 2. That should account for about £50 of the $25 million they had to spend then.”
Left 4 Dead 2 will award the avatars of skilled Xbox 360 gamers with frying pans, themed T-shirts and med kits, according to text found buried in the game’s demo by Steam forum posters.
Steam poster Fade Guy said he found a list of Avatar Awards in a file that also mentions a commentary mode featuring audio be Gabe Newell for the game.
Here’s the full list of Avatar Awards and how you earn them, according to Fade Guy:
Med Kit: Earned by beating all five campaigns.
Bull Shifters Shirt: earned by winning 10 games of Versus.
A Left 4 Dead 2 shirt: Earned by winning 10 games of Scavenge.
Zombie Hand Shirt: Earned by killing 10,000 Infected.
Depeche Mode Shirt: Earned by rescuing Gnome Chompski from the Dark Carnival.
I believe this will be only the second game to support Avatar goodies that you can unlock through gameplay.
Despite numerous people pre-loading Left 4 Dead 2’s exclusive demo, PC users appear to be left in the dark waiting for it to unlock. It was originally scheduled to unlock sometime today, October 27th, but so far we just have an “unreleased” status.
We would assume Valve is aware of the problem, there’s plenty of angry forum posters everywhere, but so far they haven’t responded. Thankfully Xbox 360 owners are unaffected, and many have download and are currently playing said demo.
The first Left 4 Dead 2 television commercial begins airing across North America this week. The spot, created in collaboration by Valve and GameStop, highlights the exclusive in-game melee weapon (American baseball bat) offered to those who pre-order the game at GameStop.
