A brand new uncommon-common typed of infected has been revealed. Bulletproof infected.
Valve showed off the final two levels of Left 4 Dead 2 campaign The Parish this evening, revealing how the game’s four new Survivors will get the hell out of New Orleans. It also showed a brand new uncommon-common infected.
Similar to the hazmat suit-wearing infected that are immune to incendiary fire, a new, mostly bulletproof infected will join the mix in The Parish. Seems a few riot police wearing full gear couldn’t escape the zombie apocalypse, making the escape a little harder for Coach, Ellis, Nick and Rochelle.
These kevlar wearing infected can only be killed from behind, making it especially difficult if two are bearing down on your character. A quick melee hit will stun them, even knocking them down and exposing their posteriors. But as they charge you, unloading a full clip on their fronts will essentially do nothing.
Not sure how well molotovs, pipe bombs and other explosives will work, but we hope they’ll do the work they’re known for.
It’s a nice addition to the zombie arsenal, which should make the hordes, normally easily mowed down, a little harder to contend with.
In this video, the Spitter’s spit is displayed and shows us how strong it is. It splits apart two of the Survivors from the group. A Charger then attacks another Survivors and slams him into the ground.
The Spitter is a new special infected that will be making an appearance in Left 4 Dead 2. The Spitter will have a ranged attack that has an area effect which hurts Survivors who are within it, sort of like what fire does. This can force Survivors to move out of tight areas, eventually making them be split apart from eachother.
Thanks to a GameSpy preview of Left 4 Dead 2, a new special infected has been revealed, known as the “Spitter.”
Beyond the common infected and hero infected from the original L4D, the time I spend with L4D2 also allowed me to check out the effects of the newly revealed Spitter infected. The Spitter — whose graphic was still being worked on when I played — can lob a ranged attack into a group of survivors, creating an area where survivors take damage so long as they are within it. No, the Spitter’s shot won’t do a ton of damage all at once, but it can hurt you badly after a few seconds spent in its area of effect, and can easily make a team panic and split up when it hits in the middle of a fight. Imagine you’re in a room with your team and a Spitter lobs the shot through the window, forcing your team to abandon the position. Now imagine that as you all abandon this spot that some of you split off from one another — perhaps exiting out of the room from two different sides — leaving yourself open to attack. I’m sure you get the idea of how this can be bad for a team and potentially rewarding in multiplayer.
